Sangria Blanca - A Salute to Summer

Here is to sunshine

To slinky sundresses and walks in the park

Here is to blackberry patches, big move makers and teeny sail boats

Here is to barbeque

To perfect little babies being born, peaches and plums.

Here is to early afternoon tea parties and block wide second hand sales

To sisters, to sister’s sister in laws, and to key pajamas.

Here is to endless watermelon

Here is to soldiers, tanned shoulders and failed hikes

To stairs, secrets and breezy bay windows.

Here is to weekends off

Here is to seaside spray, chocolate hazelnut crepes, and lemonade stands

To summer, to summer, to summer

Here is to summer

Sangria Blanca

1 Bottle White Wine

(Use something fruit forward like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc)

½ Cup Sherry

2 Peaches

1 Pear

1 Grapefruit

½ Cup Basil Simple Syrup

1 Bottle Sparkling Water

·         To make Basil Simple Syrup Bring ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water, and about 15 basil leaves to a boil. Strain and Chill.

·         Slice all the fruit, long thin pieces will look the best in the glass. I recommend segmenting the grapefruit with the peel still on, no particular reason except that I think it looks better. Reserve the prettiest pieces for garnish in the glass.

·         Mix all the ingredients together except the sparkling water and let marinate for at least one hour so that all the flavors can incorporate.

·         Pour over ice, add a splash of sparkling water, garnish with the pretty-pretty sliced fruit and enjoy this delicious summer send off.
